Responding to 2012 is a look at
the thought and ramifications behind the new movie "2012"

When...
will time
end?
|
|
What will happen
at that time?
|
"Since
the begining
of time, mankind
has been fearful of and fascinated by
the unknown, especially the unknown truth
about when
time will end"

Who
will survive?

Why
would
God allow
all this?
|
|
What if there really will be an end of this
world?...
And what if there is a way I can prepare
for it?...
And What if God has already told us the answers...
Would I want to know it?

Movie
to be released in theaters
November 13, 2009
What
the "Passion of the Christ" did to help us better grasp the reality of
Christ's crucifixion,
"2012" has the potential of doing to help
us better grasp the reality of the true,
end time events, clearly
presented
in the word of God.
|
|
| * NOTE:
This is not
a religious based movie. Therefore, the timeline given by the
title itself, "2012", is not the
timeline presented in the Holy Word of God. However the global
cataclysmic events depicted in the movie seem to be very close and very
realistically portrayed as the kinds of events that the Bible describes
which will occur in the latter days, specifically those events
described in the book of Revelation. |

Why all
the whoopla about the movie "2012"?
It is believed by
some that the ancient Mayan civilization believed and
predicted the end of the world on December 21, 2012. This is
based on
the Mayan calendar ending on that date.
Mayan belief of
creation:
The polytheistic Mayan gods included Kukulkán (also known by the Aztec name Quetzalcoatl) and Tepeu. The two were referred to as the
Creators, the Forefathers or the Makers. According to the story, the
two gods decided to preserve their legacy by creating an Earth-bound
species looking like them. The first attempt was man made from mud, but
Tepeu and Kukulkán found that the mud crumbled. The two gods
summoned the other gods, and together they decided to make man from
wood. However, since these men had no soul and soon lost loyalty to the
creators, the gods destroyed them by rain. Finally, man was constructed
from maize,
the Mayans staple and sacred food.
December 21 – The Mesoamerican Long
Count calendar, notably used
by
the pre-Columbian Maya
civilization among others,
completes a "great cycle" of thirteen b'ak'tuns (periods of 144,000 days each) since the
mythical creation date of the calendar's current era. On this day the Long Count date at
creation—written 13.0.0.0.0 in modern notation, equivalent to August
11, 3114 BC in the proleptic Gregorian
calendar—is repeated for the
first time in a span of a little over 5,125 solar years.
The completion of this cycle and the
repetition of the previous Creation's Long Count ending date have been
central to the 2012
phenomenon. Academic
researchers
have not concluded that the ancient Maya themselves attached similar
significance to this point in time.
The Mayan
calendar
began
approximately 3114 BC in our modern calendar terms. It is also
thought
that the Mayans believed the the creation of the earth was at this
time. Probably no one other than the Mayans hold to that
belief.
Therefore, since the Mayan's understanding of the creation of all
things is in question, there is little reason to take seriously the
ending of their calendar as having significance to the destruction of
creation. (source,

|
NOTE: There
does not seem to be any Mayan prophecy concerning the end of the world
or the end of time, such as presented in the movie 2012.
Their
calendar simply ends on that date, as
it has been interpreted.
The reason of the calendar's end has been opportunity for some to make
tremendous speculations and assumptions as to why the calendar ended at
that point
and it seems the movie 2012 is the result of some of those fascinating
assumptions.

The Movie Review:
WOW! - 2012
was a really action packed, nail bitter from beginning to end.
Special
effects were great and the drama woven throughout the movie was
powerful! Acting was also commendable.
If you plan to go see the movie, it is
rated PG-13, due to the
intensity of the disaster and cataclysmic end of time sequences
depicted. The movie is focused on a family which is
attempting to escape from one disasterous event after the other...at
times the very runway underneath their airplane is crumbling away, the
bridge they are driving over begins collapsing, and the RV they are
driving at one point is being bombarded by giant flaming rocks falling
to earth and begins shearing off their RV as they continue to
drive, as they attempt to out run the end of the world events.
It was extremely intense, and possibly traumatic, not so much due to
blood and
gore, but due to the human devastation and catastrophic events taking
place, entire cities and their high-rise buildings collapsing, large
buildings crumbling and crushing multitudes of people underneath it -
even the Sistine Chapel, --people trapped in automobiles and being
catapulted off highway bridges, trains full of people plummeting to
their doom and airplanes crashing into buildings, etc. etc. etc.
Possibly children and those faint of heart should not watch
this movie and just be satisfied to read the reviews.
There
were a few completely disconnected and totally unnecessary sexual
inferences made with several obscenities. Unfortunately, these
seems
to be viewed by Hollywood as movie "essentials".
The
issue of the Mayan calendar was unrelated to the majority of the movie,
other than the very beginning.
There were several deeply moving family / relationship issues taking
place throughout the movie.
There was also the tension between selfishness
and sacrifice and power and compassion.
The end time events such as earthquakes, tidal waves and wide spread
panic, seemed to well illustrate the events that will occur during the
time referred to in the Bible as the Tribulation period. That is the
time in which the world becomes more violent and more sinful and
persecution will increase and belief in truth will decrease.
The movie progressed towards the attempted preservation of the earthly
species, which was accomplished (at least in the movie) by the
construction of gigantic "arks" of massve proportions. They also
brought on board animals of all kinds, as well as a limited number of
people, supposedly of the highest gene pool, in order to ensure the
most successful propagation of humanity, in the event that the arks
made it through "the end". However, at the end of the movie, it
was revealed that the highest gene pool was not the most important
issue, but the people with the ability to purchase the high priced
tickes - up to 1 Billion Euros.
The movie nears the end with good motives gone bad or at least brought
into question. Personal sacrifice from great and "important"
people allow for those of lesser importance to come aboard the arks for
"salvation".
2012 presented global devastation of Tribulational proporstions due to
planetary alignments and solar storm surges that began changing planet
earth into a rapidly melting and shifting object of destruction.
Friends, when these things eventually take place, the Bible clearly
tells us that it will not be simply the stars that determine the fate
of the inhabitants of the world, but God. The stars are not the
ultimate cause, but they are the tools of God to accomplish His eternal
purposes, that is to draw all human beings to Him.
In the end of the movie, many were saved, but most of the inhabitants
of the earth perished. Those who lived, look to a new beginning
in a new area on earth. Beyond that, their future was only
inferred.
I found it disheartening that not one of them were saved because they
acknowledged they needed God's help and called on God for
salvation. It was because of man's intelligence and ingenuity.
There were a few people in the movie who held plackards announding
"Repent: The End is Near" - and at one point they were addressed by
those in positions of prominence in the movie as perhaps having been
right all along. But that was as far as that element went.
The Bible is clear, that whether it is facing death in this life or
"the end" of the world, no one will be saved by their own intelligence
or ingenuity. If that were so, then humanity would not be in that
situation in the first place.
But when we are faced with death, the end of time, personal physical
devastation or needs of any kind - and especially spiritiual help - our
only hope is to "call upon the name of the Lord". (Rom.
10:13).
And that our only hope is in God as our very present help in times of
trouble. And in order to access God, we must come to Him through His
Son, Jesus Christ. There is no other way!
Some would rather face life on their own, make their own way, push
through hard times and do it "My Way".
Friends, don't wait to be faced with death or with the end of the world
crashing into your RV or crumbling your life away right under your very
feet. Look to God today. Turn to Jesus Christ today and
trust Him as your only Savior. Find forgiveness of your sins
today through faith in Christ. Because whether you face
death today, or the end of the world tomorrow, - regardless of how our
life may come to an end, each one of us will one day stand before God
and will be held accountable for all we have ever done. Some will
be forgiven for the things we have done that have broken God's rules,
others will be forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for
our sins.

The concept of the abrupt and inconclusive understanding of why the
Mayan calendar ends, has given birth to many different explanations,
one being that it was because the end of the calendar was because the
Mayans foresaw the end of time itself. With that concept, the
movie is about the end of time of the end of the world as we know
it. But again, this was not prophesied by the Mayan's only
theorized by those who interjected their own interpretations, as to the
Mayan calendar's end. The end of the Mayan calendar corresponds
to our present date of December 21, 2012.
This concept has been of concern for some, as they have begun to
consider that this concept may hold some truth concerning the end of
time. Unfortunately, this movie has for some, fueled their fears
and their fascination with the Mayan calendar.
| NOTE: With all the interest in
the grocery store tabloid sheets, and gossip papers, it is amazing that
some otherwise intelligent people, find such erroneous and irreputable
information for themselves to embrace. Whether it is the silent
documents of ancient civilizations, stories of UFOs, or Elvis
sightings, people seem to relish such far out stories and myths.
But when it comes to the truth of the Bible, our culture is
increasingly oppositional and even antagonistic toward that which has
been considered viable
truth, for thousands of years. Yet it is that traditional truth
that is being discarded in place of new and more fanciful
stories. Many of these pertain to the same topics from scripture,
only from different and
more unreliable sources and content. |
|
Even the "History" Channel has taken this
one and is promoting all but what scripture says.
The "History"
Channel has "The
Nostrdamus Effect: Extinction 2012", "The Mayan Doomsday
Prophecy", and "DoomsDay 2012".
They even have "The
Armageddon Set", which they
state is about "the doomsday foretold in the Mayan calendar".
Interestingly they take the word "Armageddon" from the Bible, but don't
seem to include the accuracy or content of the Bible.
Again, remember the Mayan's did not have a doomsday
prophecy, only an argument from silence and the end of their
calendar. When we allow our fears and fascinations to lead
us in our search for truth, arguments from silence can come up with
just about anything.

What the
Bible says about
"the end"?
When will “the end”
come? The end of what? The end of
time? The end of the world? The end of
this astrological era?
It seems "2012" does not present the "end", as things and time continues beyond the
apocalyptic upheavals.
The Bible does tell of others who had the same question on their
minds. The apostles of Jesus Christ asked Him the same basic
question.
"
Matthew 24:3
"And as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him
privately, saying, Tell us, when
shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Your coming, and
of the end of the world? "
These are normal human questions. And questions are OK to
ask. But
what is important is whether or not we are willing to seek reliable
answers to these questions and what we do with the answers that we
receive.
Notice the answer Jesus gives in the very next verse. "And Jesus answered and said to them, Take
heed that no man deceive you."
(Matthew 24:4 and following verses). Jesus goes on to say one of
the
signs of His return and "the end" is the proliferation of false
Christ's and false prophets. How many times have we heard of
someone
who has predicted the date when Jesus will return or even predicted the
time when "the end" will come. (such as 2012
|
|
"Therefore
you also
be ready,
for in that hour you think not,
the Son of Man comes."
-Matthew
24:44
|
While Jesus doesn't
tell the exact time, He does describe many events leading up to His
return and the coming of "the end", here in Matthew chapter 24. Also,
the book of Revelation describes the "Tribulation", which is the
description of the events leading up to the end.

end"? |

Be Assured of
This:
Friends
note this. The Tribulation, as
horrific and catastrophic
as it will be, is not
under the rule of Satan. This is not a
work of the Devil, though he will certainly be part of the events
taking place.
Be
assured of this. The time of tribulation which is coming upon the
whole earth has Gods purposes in mind.
1) The
7 seals are from God’s hand and are
intended to unleash the
Tribulational forces which initiate the times of trials and testing
upon the
earth and its inhabitants which are intended to being all people to
repentance
from their selfish and false beliefs, idols, saviors, and personal
sins.
2) The
7 Trumpets are planned by God which
releases the Great Beast
(the AntiChrist), calls Gods people out of the world to meet the Lord
in the air, and ultimately announces the return of Jesus Christ to the
earth.
3) The 7 Bowls
of Gods’ wrath and sent
from God and sets free the evil spirit beings which gather the armies
of the
kings of the earth to fight against the armies of God, His people and
His holy
city.

Who will survive? How will anyone escape?
The
Bible teaches that those who are believers in Jesus
Christ as God's only Son and their only Savior, will be saved from the
wrath of
God which is to come upon the whole earth.
*
Gods word promises there will be no condemnation for sin, upon those
who have received Jesus Christ and experienced His love and
forgiveness.
"There is therefore
now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)
*
When Jesus died on the cross, He intercepted the wrath of God for the
sins of all people, so that those who believe in Christ and are
following Him, will not experience the wrath of God.
"For God has not destined us for wrath, but
to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live
with him." (1Thes.
5:9-10)

How can anyone escape?
Is the "end" really the end?
What about my family?
What can we do to prepare for "the end"?
These are reasonable and understandable questions. But consider
this. Whether we face "the end" or whether we simply die, each of
us will one
day stand before God and have to give account for ourselves, our
beliefs
and our actions while we were on the earth. After we die, we will have
no second chances.
___________________________________
"It is appointed to man once to die,
after that, the judgment! "
(The Bible:
Hebrews 9:27)
____________________________________
There is no greater question than this: How can I prepare for
that?! How can I prepare to meet God?! What does God
expect of me and how can I prepare for life after death?
The Bible states: "The fool has said in his heart there is not
God."
My friend, how much greater a fool is the person who says, "I believe in God, but I'm not interested
in what He expects of me." Or "I believe there is a life after death,
but right now, I'm not particularly interested in how I might prepare
for it."
Are
you ready for "the end"?
|
|
The Bible says about these end time
events, that "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be
saved." (Joel
2:32;
Rom. 10:13)
Why
wait? Why wait until "the end" to make things right with
God? Why take that chance? You may be gone before you have
the time to even think about it.
Gods love has given
us many chances to receive forgiveness for our sins and to get prepared
for eternity.
God loves YOU and
He has demonstrated "His own love for
us, that while we were still
sinners Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8)
