Responding to 2012

--Opportunities for the Church--

Responding to 2012
Responding to 2012 is a look at the thought and ramifications behind the new movie "2012"

When...
will time
end?

What will happen
at that time?

"Since the begining
of time, mankind
has been fearful of and fascinated by

the unknown, especially the unknown truth
about when

time will end"

Who will survive?

Why would
God allow
all this?

What if there really will be an end of this world?...

And what if there is a way I can prepare
for it?...

And What if God has already told us the answers...

Would I want to know it?

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools...
-Rom. 1:22

...Who
changed the truth of God
into a lie...
-Rom.1:25

[Nasa Hubble]

Movie to be released in theaters

Make the most of every opportunity

of the Living Word of God.

Opportunities for the church
1) Take this incredible opportunity to ask questions about the movie.   One great thing about a movie like this, is that you can walk right up to almost anyone, anywhere and out of the clear blue sky, ask them if they have seen the movie "2012".  If they've seen it, most people will instantly began spilling out their thoughts and impressions.  Even people who won't talk about their kids to you, will often talk about a movie, and one with this kind of theme certainly is a conversation starter!
In a check out line or sitting in the waiting room while getting your car serviced, you can simply break the silence and say, "Anybody see "2012" last week?  If someone saw it, they'll probably waste no time responding to your question.  If they respond by saying, "2012?  Never heard about it. What's it about?"   There is another open door.   Tell them about the movie, ask some questions below and make a bridge to what the Bible actually says about end times events.

2) Listen to the responses of people who saw the movie.  What were they feeling when they walked out of the theater?   What did the movie make them think about?  What do they seem to believe about the Movie?  Was there some possible truth to it, or was it all merely another demonstration of Hollywood special effects?  Were there any interests or concerns about the "end of the world"?   Ask people some of these questions.  This is a very powerful and moving topic and to be honest, it looks like Hollywood has done a pretty good job with the idea.  After seeing the movie, it is very possible there will be people with silent, concerns and with a few well placed questions, you could get them to share and lead them toward a discovery of the real story on Gods truth, the Bible.

3)  Opportunities Galore!  After they have shared their thoughts and feelings, ask them about the accuracy of the information presented in the movie.  Ask them why they believe that is true and if so, what facts or evidence do they base their beliefs on?  Ask them if they realize that nothing presented in the movie was actually believed or prophesied by the Mayan's?
Ask them if they know that there is a reliable, historic source, from which the movie makers got their content, which does present such events, but the time frame is quite different?  Ask them if there really were such endtime events that were going to take place, would they be interested in knowing it?  And if you really could know how to prepare for it, would you be interested in hearing about it?  And if God Himself, even had something to say on the subject would they be interested in hearing His perspective?

4)  Build a bridge from what they saw in the movie, to what the Bible presents as truth.  Let them know that God has spoken on this topic, if they are interested in hearing it.  Let them know that even in the face of such catastrophic, end time events, God has a plan, a purpose and a provision for anyone of us to prepare for it.
Do we realize that such topics are the same things Jesus often taught about for those who were willing to listen to Him.  Do they realize that "the end" as it is portrayed, is not the end from God's perspective, but a transition from one era of His divine calendar to another. Both God, His purposes and His word will continue forever.
And, even if we believe we will not have to undergo such end time events -- if we believe it is still so far in the future that it won't affect me  - or if I believe that as a Christian, God won't allow me to experience such things - remember this:  Whether we face the end of time or whether we face death, everyone will ultimately end up at the same place - facing Almighty God!

Each of us will eventually step into eternity, and when we do, all 2nd chances will be gone forever.   Nothing matters more, that what we do in this life, what we believe about this topic and how we choose to prepare for it.   Also -- those whom we influence for Christ along our way.

5)  Should God open the door to share with someone whose heart has been touched by God's Spirit and whose thoughts are filled with concern about this movie and their eternal destiny, take opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ask this Question:  That movie really made me think, didn't it you?  If "the end" happened to come tonight while you were sleeping, where would you spend eternity?   or If you were to die tonight, would  you be ready to meet God?  Have you had your sins forgiven?

Gods Purpose:  God loves you and has good things for those who love and trust in Him. (Jn 3:16)

Mans Problem:  Our sin has separated us from God. (Is. 52:9 / Rom. 3:23)

Gods Provision:  God has provided an opportunity for our sins to be forgiven so we might be made ready to stand before Him.

Gods Promise:  Whoever will trust in Jesus as Gods sacrifice payment for our sins, we will be forgiven.  (Rom. 10:32 / Joel 2:32)

DO NOT FORGET THIS: Do not shrink back from asking this question!
Your Response:  Have you had your sins forgiven?  Are you ready to stand before God?  What would prevent you from being forgiven right now?  Will you trust Jesus as your Savior right now?   Can I pray with you to ask Jesus into your heart and life to be your own person Savior and Lord?

* Consider briefly sharing your own person testimony at this point.  If they are interested, perhaps ask them if you can contact them later so you can talk some more about these spiritual matters.

* Friends:  Make the most of every opportunity to give an account for the hope that is within you!

What?

Is there
a God?

What does
 He expect
of me?

 Is there
life after
death?

How can
I prepare
for it?

And if God
has already answered
these
questions....

...would
I
 want
to
know
it?

The fool has said in his heart, "there is no God"
-

How much more foolish is the person who believes there is a God, but is not interested in what HE has to say about things as important as the end of time?

Sometimes we are willing to look everywhere but to God's word for what
is true.
